Yorks and Lincs are delighted to announce that they will be holding a study day on Monday 11th October at The Source, Sheffield entitled Head to Toe:So What's New? Topics will include cooling post cardiac arrest, acute kidney injury, acute management of MIs, NIV, intra abdominal pressures, Level 3 patients being allowed to die at home, novice nurses in critical care and CVVHDF.
If you are interested in attending please check out our events page for a booking form. We will once again be running the successful 4 places for the price of 3 and the cost for the day (lunch included) is members £25, non members £35 and students £20.
Yorks and Lincs held a very successful study day in April on Ethical Dilemmas in Critical Care. Approx 70 delegates attended to hear sessions which included delerium, withholding/withdrawing treatment, legal issues and organ donation.
We plan to hold a further event on Monday 11th October entitled Head To Toe: So What's New?
Unfortunately we have had to cancel our study evening 'Critical Care & Beyond' planned for the 9th February due to a low numbers. We hope to re-arrange the event for later on in the year. Apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Yorkshire and Linclonshire Region was voted Region of the Year 2009 at BACCN Conference which was held recently in Belfast. This success makes it a fourth straight year we have won an award - the amount of time that we have been reformed as Yorks and Lincs!
The Yorkshire & Lincolnshire Region was re-launched in May 2006 with a successful study in Sheffield.
The current committee have been together since the summer of 2006 working towards revitalizing our region and giving ourselves and colleagues some motivation in these difficult times.

Thursday 7 May 2009 - "Inside Out" - A journey through the GI Tract
Topics include oesphageal varices, alcoholic liver disease, gastric banding, nutrition, pancreatitis, abdominal compartment syndrome, endoscopic surgery.
Wednesday 11 March 2009 - Are We Wimming The Battle?
6 hour care bundles, prevention and public awareness of sepsis plus Xigris were debated during the evening.

Tuesday 4 March 2008 - One for the Road - a look at Alcoholic Liver Disease
Study Evening Venue: St James Hospital, Leeds
The evening was very informative and discussed A&P of the Liver, Alcoholic Liver Disease and the nursing aspects of looking after liver patients.
12 May 2008 - Obs & Sobs - Care of the Critically Ill Obstretic Patient
Venue: The Source, Sheffield
With approx 50 delegates attending, the committee felt this was a successful event, considering todays economic climate.
The audience was made up of midwives, nurses, students and 1 ODA. Speakers discussed topics such as phsiological changes in pregnancy, pscyschological impact of a difficult pregnancy, CEMACH report, HELPP syndrome, pre eclampsia, amniotic fluid embolism,resus of mother/baby and a hands on session by Montagu Clinical Stimulation Centre of Post Partnum Haemorrhage and DIC.
Wednesday 15 October 2008 - Oh What A Trauma! Putting Humpty Together Again
Venue:The Source:Sheffield. Topics discussed included Roadside Management, Primary Survey, Fluids in A&E, Theatre Priorities, Fat Embolus, Management of a Closed Head Injury, Debate on Regional Trauma Centres.
26 November 2008 'Water Works' Renal Management In Critical Care Study Evening 7-9pm Venue: Scunthorpe General Hospital
An informative evening which included a whistle stop tour of the A&P of renal system, acute kidney injury and Renal Replacement Therapy.
The committee are looking to enroll the help of members in every hospital and in all areas to become a link between your workplace and the regional BACCN commitee. The link would be required to put up posters in your unit and around your hospital/work area. At a later date we plan to have a special event for link nurses to say thank you for your help.
