BACCN Endorsed Patient and Relative Information Booklets
The BACCN have recently endorsed three information booklets for patients and relatives experiencing Intensive care.
The first is designed for elective patients who will be experiencing Intensive care during their post operative phase.
The second is aimed at both patients and relatives whilst in Intensive care and the third provides important information on discharge from Intensive Care.
The ‘Discharge from Intensive Care’ booklet provides comprehensive details relating to the issues surrounding the decision to discharge to the ward; the change in levels of care and the changes in the patient. It also covers some of the common physical and psychological problems that patients and their carers may experience.
The combination of these three booklets will assist compliance to the NICE guideline 83 ‘Rehabilitation after critical illness’. For more information at this time please visit the following website: www.ics.ac.uk
In the near future these booklets will be downloadable in PDF format on the BACCN webpage. Alternatively if you wish to order a batch the costing and ‘how to order’ information will also be available soon.
Look out for an associated article in our journal in the near future by Barry Williams, the Chair of Critpal (patient and relative liaison group) ICS which will provide the context and the vision behind the booklets.
