NORTH WEST REGION STUDY EVENT
The Northwest region held it’s second annual study day on the 3rd July at the Faculty of Health at Edge Hill University. The theme for the day was “Doing the right thing – putting the patient first” and was chaired by Dr Jane Harper Consultant Intensivist from The Royal Liverpool and Broad Green University Hospital NHS Trust. She is also an ICS Council Member and Editor of the Journal of the Intensive Care Society.
The day covered several different topics, patient safety, the evidence for therapeutic hypothermia in different clinical situations, organ donation from a patient’s perspective, delirium management, the use of patient diaries and an account of a patient’s experience in critical care.
We had excellent support from industry which allowed us to offer the day free to BACCN members. Delegate numbers were only half of last years, but there were still just over 50 people there and we recruited 8 new members to the BACCN on the day. We also included a small questionnaire in the delegate pack asking if people would like to be link or committee members for the BACCN and we had a very positive response to that.
All the sessions evaluated very well with one person writing "even better than last year" and another commented “ looking forward to next year” and so say all the committee members.
